Drink This: Back Bay Ale House's Basin Mason
One of the biggest new trends in the culinary and cocktail world is also one of the most simple: the mason jar. These days, you can find dozens of drinks served up in these delightfully simple jars, but one Atlantic City spot has mastered the mason jar.
Back Bay Ale House, seated where Gardners Basin meets the bay, has become famous for its Basin Masons, mixed drinks with a kick. These 32 oz. behemoths come packed to the brim with all sorts of booze, designed for easy sipping on a hot summer day. With eight varieties of cocktails- including familiar favorites like Long Island Iced Tea and the Bloody Mary- there’s a different variety to match every meal or mood, but don’t underestimate their mammoth size: One of these big guys could last you from sun up until sunset.
And coming in at $12.50 a jar, you get your money’s worth. Each 32 oz. drink- that’s the size of two full pints of beer, if you’re wondering-comes fully-loaded, with combos like:
The Bob Marley: A fan favorite. Like a grown-up Arnold Palmer, with sweet tea vodka, lemonade and muddle mint
Rum Runner: Back Bay’s pretty in pink, fruity concoction, featuring both light and dark rum, along with blackberry brandy, banana liqueur, orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine, all garnished with a maraschino cherry.
Sunset Margarita: The classic margarita; golden Sauza tequila loaded with fresh citrus like lime juice, orange juice, Triple Sec and a splash of sour blend.
Mojito: Take the standard mojito, featuring light rum, simple syrup, mint and lime juice, and add a punch of flavor with your choice of flavored rums- including strawberry, passionfruit and mango- for only $1
The Back Bay bartenders only serve two Basin Masons per customer, but honestly we don’t know how you could manage more than that. It’s one of our favorite Jersey Shore experiences, and a fun way to kick back and enjoy a weekend.
