Local brewpubs could be allowed to sell kegs to bars, casinos
A bill introduced last month would finally allow New Jersey brewpubs to sell their beer via keg to local bars, restaurants, and casinos. Some say that the craft beer industry has outgrown the laws that were put in place when craft beer was just gaining popularity in the 80’s and 90’s. The bill could benefit brewpubs such as Artisan’s and Tun Tavern.
Specifically, the bill would allow microbreweries to sell beer in up to 10 salesrooms around the state while also allowing sampling at liquor stores. The maximum number of barrels that could be produced would be increased from 3,000 to 10,000 and sell their kegs to distributors which would presumably lead to bars and restaurants. State laws currently do not allow brewpubs to sell what boils down to two six-packs per person per day.
It is unlikely any decision will be made before the November elections but brewery owners are confident that the bill will pass.
