Rutgers Considers Stadium Beer Sales
Rutgers University is considering allowing beer sales at its football games. Rutgers and West Virginia University are the only two Big East football schools that do now allow beer sales. WVU, however, has announced that they will be selling beer at games starting this season, which leaves Rutgers as the lone standout. West Virginia’s athletic director has commented on the issue and predicts financial benefit between $500,000 and $1.2 million annually. While the Rutgers AD did not give a specific dollar estimate, he mentioned the benefit of not only the revenue from the alcohol sales themselves but also the revenue that could come from sponsorships. Rutgers will likely keep a close eye on how WVU beer sales turn out this season but it appears as though it is only a matter of time before the entire 8-team conference has stadiums that are alcohol friendly.
