Cuba Libre Celebrates Ernest Hemingway & National Daiquiri Day, July 15-22

Ernest Hemingway owned a home in Cuba, and spent many days writing and drinking in Havana bars. His favorite restaurant was known as El Floridita, and his favorite drink was the daiquiri. The author’s birthday falls on July 21, and as it happens, National Daiquiri Day is July 19. Mount Vernon's Cuba Libre is taking advantage of the confluence to offer a special dinner menu and drinks throughout the week, as well as an extra-special happy hour on Thursday.

From July 15–22, stop in to the tropical restaurant to enjoy a three-course, prix fixe dinner. Your $39 seat brings a starter like lobster velouté or shrimp cocktail, an entrée — look for Papa y Mary (aka surf and turf) of filet mignon and more lobster or crab-stuffed red snapper — and finish off with a rum-flambéed dessert. A selection of “El Floridita” cocktails are available for $5 each,

On July 19, happy hour (5–7 PM) will feature $5 caipirinhas, caipiroskas and sakerinhas, as well as $5 bar bites, and you can also order a special $5 Hemingway Papa Doble, named after the author’s island nickname and fashioned after his affinity for strong drink. Salud!
