Craft Brewery, 5 Rabbit Cerveceria, Cuts Ties with Trump Hotel

Donald Trump, of late, has not been lauded for his competency surrounding social and diplomatic issues.

You’ve undoubtedly read the articles, watched the videos, and seen the statements, but in case you haven’t, Mr. Trump has denounced Mexico and its citizens, saying that “Mexico is not our friend” and that “[Mexico is] sending people with lots of problems” and that those people are “bringing drugs . . . bringing crime . . . [and are] rapists.”

Naturally this caused quite an uproar, resulting in NBCUniversal, Macy’s, and Viacom cutting ties with Trump. However, none of us quite expected craft beer to get wrapped up in this mess.

According to the Chicago Tribune, 5 Rabbit Cerveceria, a Chicago craft brewery, has pulled its golden ale from Rebar, a bar inside Trump Hotel Chicago, for which the beer was specially brewed. The ale was supposed to be sold exclusively at the Trump-owned bar as a special seasonal ale for the summer months. Instead, says 5 Rabbit founder Andres Araya, the remaining kegs, of which there are approximately 50, will be distributed to various bars in Chicago, who were eager to pour the brew as a sign of solidarity. The beer will not be given an official name, but Araya says “(Expletive) tu Pelo”, which translates to “(Expletive) Your Hair”, would be appropriate, an undeniable jibe at the gossamer wisps Trump calls hair.

If you happen to be in or around the Chicago area and would like to sample the aforementioned brew, a full list of bars serving it can be found here
