Camden’s
Cooper River Distillers is giving guests the chance to embrace their inner pirates this month at the first-ever Swashbucklers’ Ball. This four-course food and rum pairing is kicking off the release of the newest rum,
Petty’s Island Rye Oak Reserve.
Cooper River opened it’s doors last April with it’s first bottle, Petty’s Island Rum, a white variety of rum named after the neighboring Petty’s Island. Since then, the distillery has produced a dark blend, Driftwood Dream Spiced Rum, as well as an un-aged rye, Silver Fox Rye-- which is the foundation for future rye whiskeys to come.
With all this growth, owner and operator
James Yoakum is celebrating with a night of swashbuckling fun. On
February 28, guests are encouraged to dress in their pirate bests and practice their pirate speak. There will be lessons on the history of pirates and their drink of choice, rum. Cooper River staff will be pairing their rum-- along with a new cocktail for the occasion, Pirate’s Punch-- with four courses from Camden’s
Black Eyed Susan's.
The night ends with a tasting of Petty’s Island Rye Oak Reserve, an aged rum that’s been conditioned in rye-whiskey barrels since Cooper River opened their doors last spring. It comes with a final course of Black Eyed Susan’s mocha cheesecake with caramel and banana sauce. It’s a night for only the boldest of buccaneers, or maybe just someone who’s looking for an excuse to break out that Jack Sparrow costume one more time.
