Bluecoat American Dry Gin

Bluecoat American Dry Gin

This is one of my favorite gins. This is, in fact, the “gateway gin” that got my girlfriend to accept the reality that gin could be delicious.

Bluecoat’s American Dry Gin is lovingly distilled in Philadelphia, and is the “first craft distillery in Pennsylvania since Prohibition.” Five times distilled in hand-hammered copper stills, Philadelphia Distilling does their nation proud with this fine liquor.

Bluecoat holds a special place in my heart for its incredibly approachable flavor. Both gin enthusiasts and gin naysayers would probably be surprised by its sweetness, its citrus, and its smooth taste. The flavors of the botanicals blend harmoniously, working in unison rather than fighting for attention.

Though great as a straight gin, it is also fantastic in cocktails. Listed below are a few offerings for your consideration, which will be served at our First Friday event September 3, from 5-9pm in the Drink Philly Office & Gallery on 3rd and Chestnut.  See here for details.

Strawberry basil lemonade:
2 oz Penn 1681 Vodka
2 oz organic lemonade
1 oz strawberry basil puree

GinGin Mule:
2 ox Bluecoat Gin
5-6 mint leaves
½ oz fresh lime juice
Ginger beer
