Yuengling's Ice Cream on Tap for a Mid-February Rollout

Following a lengthy, 28-year absence from grocers’ freezers, Yuengling’s Ice Cream is on the verge of mounting a huge comeback. It’s back in production, and is expected to start showing up at supermarkets in mid-February.

The ice cream brand is an offshoot of D.G. Yuengling and Sons Inc., the oldest and largest continuously-run American-owned brewery. During Prohibition, the brand was launched to keep the business afloat while beer and all other delicious and refreshing intoxicating spirits were verboten across the U.S., Allentown’s Morning Call reports.

Save for the name and a shared bloodline, the frozen treats makers are unaffiliated with the Pottsville brewery. David Yuengling, who is responsible for rebooting the brand, is a second cousin of billionaire beer baron Dick Yuengling. Nonetheless, he’s received blessings from his more famous cousin to revive the almost forgotten ice cream concern.

When it starts showing up at stores, Yuengling’s Ice Cream will be available in 10 different flavors, most of which will be pretty standard stuff, like chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate chip mint. Other varieties like espresso chocolate chip and root beer float are tuned toward more contemporary tastes. A Black and Tan flavor, which combines rich Belgian chocolate ice cream with salty caramel ice cream, surely takes some cues from the flagship Yuengling brew of the same name. And we’re guessing it pairs well with it too.

Keep an eye out for it at Acme, Weis and select independent grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.
